Bobbi Boho Cozy

Pattern #2 in the books! WOO HOO! The Bobbi Boho Cozy is my second pattern and was inspired by the Bobbi Boho Backpack. The idea to make a cozy came from my love of coffee. I have a bit of an obsession with Starbucks. Grande Iced White Mocha with an extra shot, no whip. I literally go there so much I have made friends with most of the baristas and a couple of regulars.

As much as I love my coffee I hate when my cup starts “sweating”. Water gets all over my hands, in my cup holder in my car, leaves a water ring on my desk at work, its the worst. So how do I stop that? Crochet of course. You literally can make almost anything out of yarn.

I just finished my first pattern not too long ago (Bobbi Boho Backpack). So I thought I would use that as inspiration for my cozy. I knew I would want to make more than just the one size so I figured the most popular items someone would use a cozy for would be a bottle (like a beer bottle), a soda or beer can, a 16oz cup (grande Starbucks cup) and a 24oz cup (venti Starbucks cup). So that’s where I started.

After posting pictures of my cozies I had someone reach out to me and ask if I could make them a cozy for a Large Panera cup. She drinks her coffee from Panera every morning and was having the same problem that I was having with her cup “sweating”. So it was back to the drawing board.

Im happy to say that I now have a pattern listed for my Bobbi Boho Cozies in my Etsy shop and it comes in four different sizes. If you aren’t a maker you can also purchase your own Bobbi Boho Cozy from my Etsy Shop.

My First Pattern!

I’ve been crocheting for about five years now and until recently I have never given pattern writing any thought. After making the “Dino Backpack Pattern” from A Crafty Concept I had a thought, maybe I could make a backpack with a bohemian flare. I’ve always been obsessed with the bohemian look and the crochet bobble stitch is the perfect stitch to give your crochet creation that boho look.

I don’t really consider myself very creative. I’m great with making things that other people design but to come up with a design all my own? Forget about it! I can’t even think of new things to cook for dinner let alone come up with a crochet pattern that other makers would want to make. So how did it do it?

I knew that I wanted to make my backpack a bohemian style so the bobble stitch is where I started. After a lot of different design ideas and a lot of frogging I finally was satisfied. I made sure that I wrote down every step along the way. My memory is terrible and I knew that I would never be able to remember what I did unless I wrote it down.

Fast forward a couple of days and I have finished my design. I am over the moon excited about what I had come up with. I’m showing my husband, texting my mother in law, you name it I was doing it. I could believe that I actually created something that I felt other crocheters would actually want to make. So where do I go next? My fellow makers!

I made sure that I got some really good photos that showed off my backpack and posted them to the Ash and Tay Crochet Facebook page to see what my fellow makers thought about it. Seriously, I was overwhelmed with all of the love I received. I have NEVER had so many likes and comments on a post before, I was in awe. This is when I knew I had to write up the pattern to share with the maker community.

Pattern writing, boy oh boy. I did not know what I was getting myself in to. I knew it wasn’t going to be easy but I didn’t realize just how hard it was going to be. I took my notebook and started typing out all of the steps one by one. After writing it all out it was time to take photos of myself making the backpack to go along with the pattern. OMG this was the hardest part. All I have to say is THANK YOU to my amazing husband Chad. If it wasn’t for him, I would have never been able to do any of this.

This ended up taking me a lot longer than I expected but I am so happy with the finished product. I have so many new ideas for patterns and I cannot wait to share them with you all!
